Hello [#Email Address#]
Here is your weekly update from Tunbridge Wells Borough Council |
|
|
 | Upcoming changes for local authorities
The Government has confirmed that plans for Local Government Reorganisation in Kent will continue, with new unitary councils now expected to be introduced in 2029.
The announcement means residents across Kent will be served by a new council structure, replacing the current two-tier system of county and district councils. However, the government has not yet decided which of the five proposed options for new council boundaries across Kent will be taken forward. A decision on the preferred option is expected early next year.

 | Energy Support Payments
The Government has announced a new £100 Energy Support Payment to help households with rising energy costs as part of the 2026 Autumn Budget.
Eligible residents who pay their Council Tax by Direct Debit will receive the payment automatically into their bank account. Eligible residents who do not pay by Direct Debit will be able to apply for the payment through a process that will be announced by the Government and local councils in due course.

| Garden of remembrance
This year, a Garden of Remembrance will be created on the lawns opposite The Amelia Scott to mark the service and sacrifice of those who have served their country.
Among the first crosses to be placed is one commemorating Private William Vidler of Hawkenbury, the first person from Tunbridge Wells to be killed in the First World War. Private Vidler, of the Royal Marines Light Infantry, who lost his life on 6 August 1914 when HMS Amphion struck a German-laid mine and sank near the Thames Estuary.
Residents wishing to remember a loved one are invited to place a cross in the garden. Crosses are available from the Poppy Appeal stand in Royal Victoria Place and from cadets supporting the appeal over the coming weekends.

Your food waste is collected weekly on the same day as your recycling or household waste collection; it may be collected at a different time of the day.
Got an awkward or bulky item to dispose of? Our bulky waste collection service will remove heavy or large items too big to fit in your bin. To visit the household waste recycling centre at North Farm you must book a slot in advance using the Kent County Council booking system.
Remember you can put old batteries out during your recycling collection week and small electrical items and textiles on your household waste collection week.
Check our waste and recycling pages for more information. |
