Small Business – Big Community |
|
|
Small Business Saturday (SBS) is a non-commercial campaign celebrating small businesses and encouraging residents to shop local. This year’s theme, Small Business – Big Community, highlights the vital role of community support. Taking place on Saturday, 7 December, the campaign aims to create a lasting impact by promoting local spending, which drives economic growth and community resilience.
This was showcased earlier this year when the Market Village in Stratford, supported by traders, the community, the Mayor, and Council staff, safeguarded over 100 jobs and this local cultural heritage. Small businesses are the backbone of the local economy, acting as community hubs and providing strength during challenging times.
"We all stuck together, all the traders here stuck together. It was lovely - a big surprise. People have missed us so much.” The Central Cafe - Angie
We encourage local businesses to join the campaign by signing up for the Small Business Finder and using the Marketing Pack through their My Small Business portal. Shoppers are encouraged to support local businesses throughout the festive season and beyond.
In the lead up to Small Business Saturday, and on the day itself, we will be sharing some useful information on our social media pages X, Instagram & LinkedIn Share your posts with us by tagging @OurNewham and using the hashtags #SmallBizBigCommunity and #NewhamBiz.
We’d love to see how you celebrate and promote your business for Small Business Saturday!
Market Traders Wanted!
As Small Business Saturday approaches, there’s no better time to celebrate and support our local entrepreneurs. This year, we’re excited to offer limited FREE temporary trading licenses to mark the occasion. Join us at The Grove Market in Stratford E15 for a festive market event starting on Saturday 7 December. The market will be open every Friday and Saturday in December from 11am to 7pm. This is a fantastic opportunity for new and seasoned entrepreneurs alike to showcase their business to the community.

|
|
Our Living Wage Week event offered a wealth of valuable insights into the significance of the Living Wage and its far-reaching positive effects on building an inclusive economy.
The panel discussions and Q&A sessions provided engaging dialogue among participants, creating a vibrant environment for learning and collaboration. We are excited about the potential growth that this transformative movement can inspire in businesses and communities, paving the way for a more equitable future. Our host Rob from Divisible Space, who is currently going through the process of being accredited, said, “As a provider of high-quality flexible workspace, we regard a high level of service to be an essential ingredient to what we offer. Paying the #RealLivingWage should be seen as an investment in your business, because a hard day's work deserves a fair day's pay."
