As you may be aware, we are currently supporting residents who have been affected by the recent structural concerns in three tower blocks in Canning Town. If you are affected or would like more information, please do reach out for support - we are here to help.
This is a fast-moving situation, and I want to reassure everyone that public safety is our priority.
Following the Government budget this week, the Mayor of London announced plans to bring Eurostar trains to Stratford International Station. This is a huge boost for Newham and is something we have been calling for as part of the lasting 2012 Olympics legacy.
The two-and-a-half-hour journey means you will be able to have lunch in Stratford and dinner in Paris. Newham will be the gateway to Europe and I will continue pushing to make sure local people feel the benefits.
I'm proud that the Labour Government is also helping with the cost-of-living crisis, encouraging growth and taking on gambling and vape shops.
This week we have announced the lead members for our Community Neighbourhoods programme that will transform how we respond to community priorities across the borough. My vision for Newham is for us all to work collaboratively to improve the lives of local people.
Speaking of bringing people together, Newham Festival of Stories takes place from November 12-15 at community spaces and libraries. It is a chance for people of all ages to get together and share storytelling and creative workshops.
The first phase of our new food waste recycling scheme is now rolling out to around 76,000 homes. Keep an eye out for your new caddy being delivered along with instructions on how to get started. For flats above shops, the service will begin in Spring 2027. So, watch this space.

From breakfast in Beckton to brunch in Brussels
Newham welcomes Government investment in Stratford International, with passenger rail services to Europe planned from 2030, bringing new opportunities for jobs, investment, tourism and growth.
The move follows record investment in Stratford, which is now home to the V&A, Sadlers Wells East, the BBC, world class sports stadia, The Abba Voyage and world-class university campuses.
The plans build on the 2012 Olympics legacy and highlight Stratford as a post-games regeneration success story.

This is a great opportunity to make a real difference in your community, develop new skills, and work alongside other residents who are passionate about improving housing services in Newham.
The role requires around five hours each month, including attendance at monthly meetings.

Free eye tests for SEND school children
The NHS and SeeAbility are offering free eye tests for SEND pupils in schools and colleges to check children and young people's vision to ensure they are healthy.
It is recommended that all children and young people have their eyes checked every year, or more often if needed, to identify the condition of their sight.
The eye care team will offer optical vouchers for children and young people who need glasses. The vouchers provide financial help towards the cost of the glasses. The team will also be available to carry out repairs, if and when glasses break. If the student loses their glasses, the eye care team can provide a replacement pair.
