In my manifesto, I pledged to protect our Libraries, which are so vital to our local communities, making education accessible and providing a welcoming, free space for local people to enjoy.
I’m delivering on my promise and last week I announced the opening of a brand new state-of-the-art Green Street Library, which will open its doors for the first time on Monday. Make sure to check out all this amazing space has to offer! Creating opportunities for local people to learn and connect is central to everything we do in Newham. That same community spirit was on full display last weekend, and I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who took part in the Play Street programme and Mayor's Street Parties, where neighbours came together to host events right on their doorstep. Just one of many reminders of why I'm so proud to call Newham my home. That same spirit of people coming together to support one another can be seen in the fantastic work of Newham's community organisations. On Tuesday, I visited the NewWay Project with DEFRA Minister Stephen Morgan MP to see how they are using food to support vulnerable people. NewWay is a partner within the Newham Food Alliance (NFA) and supports single adults in Newham affected by homelessness through daily community meals, and a gardening and work hub for skills development. As we continue working to build a more connected borough, it's vital that local people help shape the decisions that affect their neighbourhoods. Thank you to everyone who has already shared their views on our Parking and Kerbside Space Survey. The survey will help shape future policies to ensure our parking system is fair, and we use kerbside space effectively. Please fill it out to ensure your views are heard. We are listening. Forhad Mayor of Newham Forhad Hussain |

Be the missing piece in a child’s life
We are looking for caring individuals or couples who wish to look after a child with additional needs. Many of the children who are part of our Specialist Foster Care Scheme are affected by additional health challenges, global developmental delay, or are at risk of exploitation.
They are of all ages, from babies to teenagers. They require carers who can offer understanding, patience and tailored support. Does this sound like you? You could be the missing piece and transform a child’s life.
All of our foster carers receive a competitive support package, including weekly payments, 24/7 support and 100% Council Tax exemption.

Stay active and keep consistent during the colder months
It can feel difficult to stay motivated and maintain healthy habits, particularly when it’s cold and wet. However, you can stay on track by using the BetterPoints app, which tracks users’ movements.
The more you move, the more you’ll be rewarded as any BetterPoints accrued can be spent at participating businesses across Newham, exchanged for high street vouchers, or donated to charity.
Saif lost 4kg since March this year by using Better Points.
He said: “Turning on BetterPoints tracking before stepping out the door has now become a family ritual. For me, it’s about being consistent, staying motivated and making more active choices as part of everyday life.”
