We're cracking down on fly-tipping and keeping Newham’s streets clean.
This week, we launched our new Wall of Shame, exposing offenders caught dumping rubbish illegally. Fines have doubled to £1,000 and anyone who can identify a fly-tipper leading to a conviction has the chance to claim a £100 reward. There is no excuse for fly-tipping. And now, there is nowhere to hide. Keep an eye out for our Parking and Kerbside Review, the largest ever conversation on how we use our streets. We want to hear from you, so please fill out the survey. Your voice matters. I know how important it is to be able to travel easily across our borough, whether driving, cycling, walking or taking public transport. You might not know this about me but I’m an avid cyclist and I’ve been training on the cycle paths of Newham for months for my Makkah to Medina Cycle Challenge in November, where I will be attempting 500km in four days to raise money for charity. As part of my training last weekend, I completed the London to Brighton bike ride, no easy feat but a lot of fun, which made me even more passionate about improving cycling access in Newham. That's why I’ve been fighting to reopen the Greenway since it was closed for Thames Water works. The Greenway is a vital walking and cycling link between communities in Newham and is where I taught both my daughters to ride their bikes. We've heard your frustration with the continued closure, and I’ve written to Thames Water alongside our Newham Members of Parliament - you can read my letter you can read my letter here. In the meantime, we're working on alternative routes, so watch this space! Forhad Mayor Fohad Hussain |
