I’m delighted to share that Under the Stars is back for a one-night-only free live music event. Taking place at Silverworks Island on Saturday 4 July, Under the Stars: Live at the Docks will bring an evening of waterside entertainment from 6pm, including the brilliant local headliner Tinchy Stryder. You can find full details on how to book your ticket below.
This is just one of the ways we’re investing in the people and places of Newham. Arts, culture and community connection matter deeply and I’m passionate about protecting and growing them.
Last week, I visited Green Street and Plaistow Library, two community spaces being transformed into modern and accessible places to read, learn and support wellbeing. Seeing the progress first-hand, and hearing from the people who love and use our libraries every day, was a powerful reminder of why these shared spaces are so important. You can catch up on my visits on Instagram and Facebook.
That same pride is on show in Canning Town, now taking centre stage at the London Festival of Architecture 2026. Through walks, exhibitions and community-led events, there’s a great opportunity to explore the area’s transformation and see how we’re investing in Newham.
Finally, congratulations to Newham local Ezri Konsa on his England squad call-up. Ezri, attended Cumberland School and is a shining example of the talent in our diverse and brilliant communities, and why I’m so proud to call Newham home. Have a great weekend when it arrives.

Illegal Dumping Action Days: Locations Confirmed Thank you to everyone who took part in our recent survey. Thanks to your votes, we've identified the five locations that will be the focus of our Illegal Dumping Action Days this July. Over the coming month, we'll be carrying out a series of targeted action days designed to tackle illegal dumping and improve local neighbourhoods. Activities will include: - Resident engagement and education
- Increased enforcement activity
- Environmental improvements and changes to street features where appropriate
The five locations selected by residents are: Plashet Grove, St George's Road, Rutland Road, Bristol Road and Wakefield Street. We also invited residents to sign up as Street Champions to help support these initiatives in their communities. We're delighted by the response and have received a large number of applications. We'll be contacting volunteers soon with information about the next steps. Thank you for helping us keep Newham's streets clean, safe and welcoming for everyone. Together, we can make a real difference in our neighbourhoods. |

Have your say on TfL plans to extend the DLR
TfL has proposed a new station at Beckton Riverside, opposite Gallions Reach Shopping Park, that would also include new homes and jobs, as well as creating more community and retail space.
A second station would be built in Thamesmead, Southeast London.
Extending the DLR would improve connections for those who live and work in Newham, as well as providing a new link South of the River.

Little Ilford teenager celebrated for becoming more active
Our partner BetterPoints has named a teenager from Little Ilford as their latest ‘Move More Motivator’, a title handed to those who have made changes to their health and wellbeing since using the app.
17-year-old Adrita, who is also part of our Young Health Changemaker programme, feels the technology’s helped her to build more consistent habits, encouraging her to stay active throughout the week.
She said: “where I previously wouldn’t think twice about short journeys, I now choose to walk whenever possible, seeing it as both a contribution to my health and a way to earn rewards.”
BetterPoints rewards can be spent at participating businesses in Newham, while also being redeemed for high street vouchers, or donated to charity.

You can make significant changes to your eating habits in a few simple steps! It can feel difficult to change our approach to eating. Life is busy and traditions, family gatherings and celebrations can sometimes get in the way.
However, it’s easy to start by simply making a few small changes and swaps that work for you and your family. Once you start seeing and feeling the benefits, you’ll want to go even further. You may feel the advice out there is pretty generic and not tailored to your culture or faith – we want to change that and ensure you feel empowered to make healthy decisions.
By having an understanding of key food groups and portion sizes, the impact of the fats and oils we use and the importance of healthy snacks and hydration, we can make significant progress, and teach the next generation. You can read our Eat Well Newham tips for healthy eating here > Watch how one resident is making little changes that have a long-term benefit > |
