It is a real privilege to be writing to you for the first time as the Mayor of Newham.
Thank you to every resident who went out to vote last week. Having your voice heard is so important, and you have helped shape how services will be delivered in the years ahead.
I would also like to acknowledge those who came before me - former mayors, councillors, and public servants who have served this borough with dedication. As we move forward, I hope we will all be united by our deep commitment to the people and places of Newham.
I want you to know that I will be the Mayor of Newham for everyone. I will work to improve the lives of every resident in this brilliant borough, and with my 66 elected colleagues and many council staff, it is our responsibility to make Newham cleaner, safer and full of opportunity for you. Yesterday, I announced my Cabinet – which you can read about in full over on our website.
I will make sure we deliver better services, more affordable homes, and stronger local neighbourhoods where residents have a real say in decisions that affect them. Take a look at my recent video from my first day as Mayor of Newham.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be getting out and about across the borough and sharing what I’m hearing and learning as I go. It is the honour of my life to be elected Mayor of Newham. It is the borough that shaped me and made me who I am. Together, we can create a Newham that every resident is proud to call home.

Tackling Illegal Dumping – We need your help!
We are planning a series of five action days across the borough to tackle illegal dumping on our streets.
The aim of the action days are to target fly-tipping taking place at well-known hotspots throughout the borough of Newham.
Using fly-tipping hotspot data, we’ve identified locations where focused action could make the biggest difference - but we want residents to help shape where we start.
At five locations, we’ll deliver a range of proven interventions, including: - resident engagement and education
- increased enforcement activity
- changes to street features where appropriate.
Complete our survey and vote on the top five locations you would like to see action > |

Spring COVID‑19 vaccine: extra protection when you need it most
Covid‑19 is still circulating, and for some people it can cause serious illness. This spring, the NHS is offering a Covid‑19 vaccine to people at higher risk, to help top up protection and reduce the risk of becoming seriously unwell. You may be eligible for a free spring Covid‑19 vaccine if you are: aged 75 or over (including people who turn 75 by 30 June 2026); living in a care home for older adults; aged six months or over and have a weakened immune system. If that applies to you, you don’t need to wait for an invitation. Find a walk-in site through the NHS website or call 119 for free (translators are available), download the NHS app and make an appointment, or book online here.

Recycle your vapes and electricals to prevent dangerous fires
If you throw vapes, pods or electrical items with hidden batteries into your household bin, they can be crushed in bin lorries or recycling centres, causing batteries to spark and ignite surrounding waste causing dangerous fires.
Anything with a plug, battery or cable, including disposable and rechargeable vapes, pose a fire risk and should be recycled. Where can you recycle your vapes and electrical items? |
