A home for mixed plastics
We've installed temporary recycling banks for mixed plastics at five local sites to help residents who want to recycle more. These banks can be used for various mixed plastics.
Yes please (items should be clean and empty): - plastic pots such as yoghurt pots, cosmetic and make-up containers and plants pots
- plastic tubs used for ice cream, butter, margarine and other spreads
- plastic trays such as fruit and vegetable punnets or trays from meat, fish or microwaveable meals
- food and drink cartons including Tetra Pak
- plastic tubes used for toothpaste, cosmetics, make-up or hair conditioners
No thanks: - rigid plastics like children's toys
- plastic films including bags, liners, polythene and cling film
- compostable packaging
Hampshire County Council is building a new sorting facility which will allow us to collect more recyclable items from homes including plastic pots, tubs, trays, tubes and cartons from 2028. We cannot collect these items from recycling bins at home at the moment because they cannot be sorted and processed by the county council's current sorting facility.
A local company has been sourced to collect and recycle these items through sustainable markets.
Find the mixed plastics banks at: - Church Road Car Park, Church Road, Fleet GU51 4LY
- Monachus Lane Car Park, Monachus Lane, Hartley Wintney, RG27 8NP
- Crossways Manor Car Park, Reading Road, Hook RG27 9EA
- Deer Park View Car Park, Deer Park View Odiham, RG29 1JY
- Hawley Memorial Hall, Hawley Green, Blackwater GU17 9BW

Improving accessibility at Whitewater Meadows
We have recently completed pathway and accessibility improvements to Whitewater Meadows Country Park in Hook.
Hart Chair Councillor Stuart Bailey visited the site with our countryside team, alongside ward councillors for Hook both past and present, to see how the recent works extend access to the site.
A formalised pathway has been installed providing a hard standing central route through the site, allowing for easier access to those with mobility aids, especially during winter months. Along this route we have installed benches at 100m intervals to provide seating and places to reflect in nature. The benches are designed to accommodate different heights, as well as having spaces for wheelchairs or mobility scooters to sit alongside.
We have also installed a new disabled parking bay at Whitewater to replace an older disabled space. |

Warm Home Discount Scheme for Winter 2026 to 2027
The Warm Home Discount (WHD) helpline (0800 030 9322) is open for calls from 19 October. The WHD provides a £150 rebate on electricity bills for eligible low-income households in Great Britain.
Eligibility is based on a household’s circumstances on the qualification date (23 August 2026). To qualify, the benefit recipient, their partner or legal representative, must be named on an electricity account with a participating supplier on that date and meet the scheme’s eligibility criteria. In England and Wales, households may be eligible if they receive certain means-tested benefits.
Letters will be sent to eligible and potentially eligible households by January 2027 with more information. Please visit the Warm Home Discount Scheme webpage on GOV.UK for more information. |

LGA webinar: An introduction to financial governance
The Local Government Association (LGA) is hosting a virtual event from 10:00am to 1:00pm on 12 November and 3 December on financial governance. The sessions will provide an opportunity to give councillors the information to make sure every council has the culture and systems to ensure that finance is well governed and controlled.
Good governance starts at full council and every councillor has a role to play, but what does good financial governance look like? These two government-funded virtual modules will explore this question.
These sessions are aimed at new councillors and those wishing to refresh their understanding on this topic. |
